HR trends to look out for in 2020

2020 is here. Human resources are already witnessing changes in their processes. A few HR trends are already on the way, while some have already seen the light of the day across the industries. For HR professionals, it’s important to keep up with trends. Not necessarily implement the trends. However, it is crucial to be in the know about trends that might soon be swiping the HR departments.

1. Accommodate Generation Z

Generation Z workers are taking up space in the workplace. People born between the mid-’90s and later, aging between 19 -23, are entering the workplace. This generation is accustomed to digital privilege and has grown up using cellphones and other electronic gadgets and has different expectations from the older generation of the workforce. The workplace, therefore, should be equipped to meet these expectations.

‘Digital-first’ approach would work best to engage generation Z workers. Videos for on-boarding and orientation would be favorable.

2. Remote work

Remote work is growing. In fact, one-third of the U.S workforce is employed inside work. People who have full-time jobs, are working as a freelancer. Gradually, remote work will increase. What this means is — HR departments will need to prepare to allow flexibility.

Meaning companies will need to be creative in offering better time off, flexible working hours, paid parental leaves, break time, etc.

3. People analytics

Employee monitoring and time tracking tools allow organizations to track employee work habits. Data can be gathered from these tools and analyzed to see areas of improvement. An analysis is the first step toward improvement. Upon completion of the analysis, company-wide improvement plans can be implemented.

Apart from helping a business optimize workload, efficiency, and budget, using people analytics, HR will boost employer image by coming up as a forward-looking organization.

4. RPA ( Robot Process Automation)

Robots can do most tasks better than humans. Under RPA, routine work like updating employee database, collecting employee documents, etc. can be automated with the help of robots.

Robots learn the regular steps required to do a certain job and mimic those steps. HR professionals would be free to engage themselves in work that requires creativity and problem-solving.

5. Employee well-being

Companies are investing in employee wellness programs. Several large organizations offer gym membership, spa, yoga classes, etc. to maintain good well-being. Similarly, smaller organizations are offering gym memberships, private health cover, etc.

Several organizations offer meals on-premises, while many are wooing employees by showing perks on their careers’ page. No wonder employees are willing to move to companies that offer better benefits programs.

6. VR ( Virtual Reality )

Virtual reality, also referred to as virtual reality, has emerged as a new technology to improve employee training, on-boarding, and development. Virtual reality is used to create 3D environment where you can interact.

Companies like KFC and Hilton use VR headset to train employees. KFC, for instance, trains employees to cook chicken, while Hilton trains employees to perform several daily activities.
